Costume Party, Mini-Adventure 2.0 with Heather

Before Miss Heather's arrival,

we received an invitation from

Queen Titania & Lord Oberon

announcing their

Midsummer's Night Eve party.

To which we responded,

"Oh yes, this will be fun."

So, the crafting began

for the Cobweb Fairy,

the Mustardseed Fairy,

and Bottom the Jackass.

Wings were made,

a pillbox hat was created,

even a tail was crafted.

The glue guns were out

in full force and turned our

Goodwill purchases

into magical costumes the

eve before the 

Midsummer's Night.



And so a magical night it was...



Leave it to the ass to perfect the art of photobombing...



I think I can safely say we all had fun.

Queen Titania and Lord Oberon

were delightful hosts and mischeivious memories

were spun that night for all who attended.

Seven sparkles on steampunk jewelry, 
Six bells on chihuahua collars, 

The Fabulous Five, 

Four chocolate Minstrels, 
Three stiches in my bottom lip, 

Two Kindle Fires, 
And Margot got a monkey!

Thank you Jerri Lynn for finding these photos.

It's funny how a little photo can bring back so many memories.

I'm especially loving the shorty shorts on my dad.

He was notorious for wearing shorty shorts well into the '90s.

Also, I notice mom's styrofoam cup which is surely filled with black coffee.

This is a trait I've now inherited from mom - 

except mine always has cream & Splenda in it too.

And check out my crimped hair. 

I told you I've had a long love affair with my crimper.

 

Moving on to the holiday season - flash forward 

a couple of years.  I could be wrong- but, I think Uncle Larry

took this photo.  He's always been the Christmas family photographer

at Great Grandma's Christmas Eve celebration.

I remember this dress.  TT and Grandma Johnson made it for me.

I remember the shiny fabric and 

how glamorous and pretty it made me feel.

The bottom was black velvet.  That was a really special dress.

...and I'll never forget the pink glasses.

Dad took me on that shopping trip.  At the time, I LOVED pink.

I convinced my father that those were the glasses I absolutely needed.

Then, I remember going home so proud of my decision and 

hearing mom say, "Dan, why would you let Nicole get pink glasses?  

You know redheads aren't supposed to wear pink!"

Well, mom was totally right because as I look back at these photos now...

Geez - those glasses were pretty unattractive.  But, what can you do?  

It's a character builder

and sure makes for good story now.

The Survivor Lap

My Aunt Edie & my cousin Jerri Lynn - both survivors, both awesome.

All the girl cousins - all three of us. (Briante, me, & Anna who drove all the way from Kansas!)

Last night I attended my first Relay for Life.

I didn't get to stay the whole night - but, it was great to see family and friends.

Aunt Edie is a pillar of strength and I think we were all proud to attend the event  in her honor.  

Aunt Theresa & Briante made us all t-shirts that said:

E is for Edie - Our Energizer Bunny. 

I hate cancer.  It's just not fair on anyone. But, thanks to the American Cancer Society

and events like Relay for Life there is hope that there will one day be a cure.
